Big star is falling

November 11, 2009

Lately I’ve been listening non stop to Jason Molina. He’s a singer/songwriter who’s preformed first under the name Songs: Ohia, but more recently has been in the band Magnolia Electric Co. He’s an artist in the mold of Neil Young, the vocal similarities are definitely there.

He deals a great deal with the feeling of loneliness, covered in darkness when the only things around you are the shadows and spirits left behind from those who were there before you. With anyone else, these songs could be relentlessly depressing, but the beautiful images that Molina creates in your mind with his words, and the fantastic band that surrounds him, allows you to appreciate the beauty of the music.
