Broken Social Scene

July 14, 2009

Saw Broken Social Scene for free at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto Saturday night with Adrienne. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say it was not only one of the best shows of the year, but one of the best show’s I’ve ever seen. Seeing the entire family reunited so-to-speak, with Feist and Emily Haines and Jason Collette joining everyone else, you felt like this was the essence of modern Canadian music, on stage and preforming with as much energy and emotion as you will ever see. And the overflowing crowd at Harbourfront reciprocated all that energy and emotion right back at the band, for 2 hours.

I’m so happy this show was filmed by Bruce McDonald (!), because it was definitely an experience I want to relive again and again. Hopefully as much of the show possible is included on the forthcoming DVD. But for now, to relive it, or if you weren’t there in the first place, Youtube has a pretty amazing collection of videos from the show in some great quality.
